As any experienced rider knows, cycling is a sport that requires immense mental and physical endurance and lifestyle discipline, involving regular (if not daily) practice rides. And depending on the cyclist’s goals, practice can involve covering 50-75+ miles and/or climbing thousands of feet in elevation.
When preparing for a race, tour, or climb, the last place any rider wants to be is off the road, especially as a result of pain or injury. We spoke to a few cyclists who shared their thoughts on how homeopathic arnica can make life in the saddle more enjoyable and successful. They even offered up a few riding and gear tips too!
Tip 1: Get Fit for Your Bike
Aside from getting a bike that is the right size overall for your height and body type, make time to actually be fitted to your bike. Appropriate fit will ensure that you are in the right position to put out the most power, and it can also greatly reduce your risk for injury due to improper form. Knee and lower back pain tend to develop when riders pedal incorrectly, and most do not even realize they are doing it. You can also look into orthotics to add support for your feet (and let’s face it, after all that work, they deserve it).
Tip 2: Fuel Your Body with Proper Nutrition
Since most cyclists strive to output optimal watts per kilo (the ratio of power to body weight), proper nutrition and hydration are critical. You will not be able to get the most out of your body without putting lean, nutrient dense, high-energy food and drinks in it.
Tip 3: Try Arnica for Your Sore Muscles & Leg Cramps
After a certain number of miles, it’s likely you will start to feel what most riders call “hitting the wall.” Your lower legs and quads may start to cramp, making proper pedalling and riding form even harder to maintain. This is when arnica can help!
Benefits of Arnica Tablets
Oral arnica tablets are a great option for addressing general body aches and minor swelling. Plus, they are easy to pop in the mouth and will dissolve quickly under the tongue.
Benefits of Arnica Creams
Arnica creams and other topical applications are best suited for targeted areas of pain, with the leg muscles being a great example. If leg cramps start to develop, take a moment to rub in some arnica to reduce discomfort and any minor swelling in the area.
According to our cyclist friends, the relief felt from arnica led to fresher legs and an overall increase in their ability to keep riding towards the finish line!
